About me

I am a technical consultant with a First Class Honours Degree in Applied Physics. I was born in Bath and my career has taken me to Germany, Canada, Hampshire and Scotland. Ich spreche ein wenig Deutsch y hablo un poco espanol.

I started playing bridge in my lunch break at work in Somerset in 1997. This progressed into weekly evening sessions with the four of us rotating as host. We aggregated the points accumulated week to week and after three months we went away for the weekend to places like Cornwall and The Cotswolds. Whichever pair was losing by 6pm Saturday paid for dinner. The winners paid for the wine. We spent Sunday site-seeing and the whole cycle started again on Monday lunchtime!

As my professional career evolved, so did my bridge by reading bridge books and doing quizzes and taking on tougher challenges at Young Chelsea Bridge Club and Andrew Robson’s Bridge Club. My first paid-for bridge weekend was in Hampshire and my second was with Mr Bridge in the year 2000 at The Holt, Oxfordshire.

In the early years I was focussed on maximising my time at the table. However, in 2002 I started helping at Mr Bridge weekend events and gained a lot of pleasure from seeing other players progress. By 2011 I had completed my EBU Directors course and I was teaching beginners on Mr Bridge cruises in the Mediterranean. This was not exactly hard work as we visited some stunning places such as Rome, Lisbon, Cartegena and Dubrovnic. I completed the EBU Bridge Club Teachers course in Spring 2021.

I now live in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex and I split my time between teaching bridge, playing bridge online, playing chess, managing a couple of properties locally and going for long country walks with Jacqui.
